Re: Circuit d’Obernai
500cc (35 laps = 92.68 km)
The race was held under constant rain, from start to finish. Paddy Driver was leading after 10 laps, in front of Redman, Insermini, Jäger and Collot. The French riders soon made their moves and by half-distance Insermini had taken the lead in front of Redman, Driver, Collot and Jäger. The BMW rider soon passed Collot back for fourth place and embarked on a beautiful charge that would see him pick up Redman, Driver and finally Insermini (two laps from the end) to score a well deserved victory. Redman suffered fading brakes as the race progressed and although he could not challenge Insermini for second he managed to remain in front of Driver. Collot, Paba and Casset followed, all in the leader’s lap, while Kläger, Braun and Guignabodet rounded up the top ten, one lap behind.
